Biography

Anthony Scher has 40 years in private practice representing physicians in professional misconduct and licensing matters before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC) and other licensed healthcare providers (nurses, psychologists, etc.,) before the Office of Professional Discipline (OPD). He is the Former Director of Prosecutions for the Office of Professional Discipline and served as the Assistant Chief of Litigation for the New York City Law Department. He has successfully represented physicians and other licensed professionals in hundreds of misconduct investigations conducted by the OPMC and the OPD. These matters included successfully defending the most high profile cases against physicians brought by the OPMC over the last 30 years and obtaining “not guilty” verdicts in many of these cases. Tony has appeared before the Courts in New York pursuing judicial challenges to OPMC/OPD proceedings and has won numerous appeals of OPMC/OPD decisions. He regularly lectures on the subject of physician discipline in programs sponsored by the New York State Department of Health/OPMC, malpractice insurers, the New York State and New York County Medical Societies and at area law schools.
